Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) Certificate & Testing

The Nurse Aide training program prepares individuals to work in long-term care facilities and hospitals. Classes are offered face-to-face or hybrid (face-to-face and online). The goal of the program is for students to achieve a basic level of knowledge and acquire skills to provide safe, effective patient and resident care. Classes are offered several times a year at a variety of locations. The course includes 35 hours of classroom instruction, 20 hours of laboratory practice and 45 hours of clinical experience in a nursing home or long-term care facility.

The Nurse Aid Skills Exam is the skills demonstration portion of the CNA State Exam Process. The test will consist of 5-7 skills taken from a list of 31 skills included in the nurse aide course. You will have 45 minutes to complete the test. A score of 70% or higher is required to be successful and to be eligible for the Iowa Direct Care Worker Registry. Registry placement in Iowa also requires 70% or greater on the CNA Knowledge Exam. (Both tests are required and taken separately.) Registration must include SSN. Students must bring a valid photo ID to testing. The student must arrive by the beginning time to be eligible to test.

This is an 12-hour course is to provide content and skill review for individuals who have successfully completed a 75-hour nurse aide course in the past or a nursing student who has successfully completed a "nursing fundamentals" course. The review of the content will consist of three 4-hour session that will focus on the pre-assessment instrument. Review of skills will include both demonstration and return demonstration. Resident scenarios will be used as a group activity to promote the application of content and skills and assist with preparation for the State Competency Testing. This review is to help facilitate re-entry into the long-term workforce.

The Nurse Aide training program prepares individuals to work in long-term care facilities and hospitals. Classes are offered face-to-face or online with in-person labs. The goal of the program is for students to achieve a basic level of knowledge and acquire skills to provide safe, effective patient, and resident care. The Theory portion includes 35 hours of classroom instruction, 20 hours of laboratory practice and 45 hours of clinical experience in a long-term care facility. The training is designed to meet the training requirements of the Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1987(OBRA) for aides working in nursing facilities and skilled nursing facilities.

Theory will meet every Tuesday from 9/1/26 to 10/20/26. Clinical will meet Tuesdays & Thursday from 5:00 pm-9:15 10/22/26-12/3/26
