Wind Technician

Prepare for careers in the growing renewable energy industry with our Wind Technician program. Students develop skills in wind turbine maintenance, electrical and mechanical systems, safety procedures, troubleshooting, and equipment operation. Through hands-on training, students gain the technical knowledge needed for entry-level positions in wind energy, industrial maintenance, and related energy technology fields.

The CLIMB READY – Wind Technician Program offers workforce ready students a comprehensive and immersive training experience designed to equip them with the essential safety and technical skills needed for a successful career in the wind energy industry. Emphasizing safety and technical proficiency, the program ensures graduates are well-prepared to meet industry demands and excel in their careers. Upon successful completion, participants will gain comprehensive knowledge of wind career safety, first aid, manual handling, fire awareness, working at heights, control of hazardous energy, and hoist user training. The technical skills training includes mechanical, electrical, bolt tightening, and hydraulics competencies. Additionally, students will earn several key industry certifications: the NFPA 70E Low Voltage Qualified Certificate, HSI First Aid/CPR/AED Certificate, and the GWO BST Certificate, verified by WINDA. The GWO BST Certificate encompasses training in working at heights, first aid, fire awareness, and manual handling, ensuring participants are thoroughly prepared for the demands of the wind energy sector.

Registration closes on January 25th, 2027 at 4:00 pm. Class will be held at the Renewable Training Center in St. Ansgar, Iowa (508 Park St, St Ansgar, IA 50472). Students will need to bring safety toe shoes, work gloves, and may bring their own laptops or tablets if they wish. They will be released daily to eat lunch on their own. Maximum bodyweight is 280 lbs.
