Dog Grooming

A Dog Grooming internship builds on the skills learned from the student's Canine Campus education. It provides hands-on experience in pet care and grooming. Interns assist with bathing, brushing, trimming, and maintaining dogs’ coats, as well as learning proper handling and safety techniques. Responsibilities also include cleaning work areas, organizing supplies, and building a client base. This internship helps develop animal care skills, attention to detail, communication, and professionalism, while offering insight into the pet grooming industry. Interns gain practical experience and mentorship that prepare them for careers in pet care, grooming, and related animal services.

This internship will start on August 18, 2026 and continue for 10 weeks. Angie will work Monday, Tuesday evening at 3:45 - 8:30 pm and the first and third Saturday from 7:45 am - 4:30 pm. Due to the fact that Canine Campus is closed Labor Day Madison will work with Angie on making up this day later in the internship.

Students must be able to to do the following: Stamina: Having the stamina to stand and focus for long periods, up to 4 hours. Strength: Can lift/handle/restrain dogs of varying sizes, up to 50/75 lbs. Coordination: Have hand-eye coordination. Flexibility: Have the ability to bend at the waist at a 90-degree angle in all directions. Physical Endurance: Have the ability to consistently work through varying attitudes of dogs without a significant drop in energy.

The Professional Dog Grooming course provides a college-certified curriculum designed to meet the highest industry standards and equip students with essential skills and credentials for careers in dog grooming. The course takes place in the college’s professional dog grooming training center and offers hands-on instruction focused on technical skills, safety, sanitization, and the artistry of grooming. Students will develop professional and interpersonal skills necessary for industry success and engage with comprehensive learning materials, including illustrated textbooks, online content, PowerPoint presentations, tutorial videos, and an instructional guide. Research-based instruction ensures progressive expertise development, while multiple assessment methodologies prepare students for professional certification.

Registration closes on December 7, 2026 at 3:00 pm. There will be a mandatory orientation for all students on the first day of class, January 4, 2027 at 7:45 am.
