Construction Fundamentals

Gain the foundational skills needed for success in the construction industry. The NIACC Workforce Academy introduces students to basic construction principles, workplace safety, tool usage, blueprint reading, and hands-on building techniques. Student develop practical skills in areas such as carpentry, materials handling, and job site communication while preparing for entry-level careers in the skilled trades and construction workforce.

This hands-on entry-level course will teach you how to accurately read and interpret measurements on a standard tape measure. You will learn how to read and record measurements, understand fractional increments by identifying inch, half-inch, quarter-inch, eighth-inch and sixteenth-inch marks, and use the tape efficiently at work. This is an ideal course for onboarding a new employee or providing essential skills for current staff. No prior measuring experience is required.
